Christmas Contest - Team Round - Problem 11

Consider a triangle and a square of unit area. For each polygon, draw another polygon on the interior that connects midpoints of any two adjacent edges. The sum of the areas of the two interior polygons can be represented as \tfrac ab where a and b are relatively prime positive integers. Find a+b
